KWMC Claim Summer League Trophies

KWMC have claimed 2nd place in the 2008 Summer League

In the final game of the season, KWMC needed a big 9-2 victory to claim the Division B title. The Walton Fiddlers came well prepared though and took apart the KWMC team 9-2 to comfortably take the title. Congratulations to them on a well deserved win.

Competitions are next with KWMC fielding teams in the Triples, Pairs and Singles.

A review of the last year

I've been meaning to write up something around this for a while now but it's only now with the Summer League over I've got around to it. I think it's important to recognise the progress the team has made over the last year. There have been tough times for the squad over recent times, the losses of family and friends, illness and operations, players coming and going and player form rising and falling.

I've had to refresh my memory on how we did last Summer, but we finished a lowly 4th significantly behind the 3 teams above us. Then there was the Winter league where we finished 5th but could easily have finished 3rd. This was probably the best performance KWMC have put in in Division A and is something we need to build on.

All in all the team is performing better than ever and it bodes well for a good Winter campaign.

Before we get too comfortable though, there will be more challenges ahead. It's not clear yet what the Winter League will look like. It could be weaker, it could be stronger. It may even be just one division. So many teams have dropped out over the previous seasons and others are creaking at the seams that it's difficult to judge. Too many of the teams are aging fast and unless some younger people get involved and create teams, we could be looking at the whole league folding within the next 10 years. That for me is a serious risk.

But what about KWMC? Well we are short of players but hopefully those who played the summer will commit for longer and we can continue to build a brand of competitive darts based on the values the team has strived to uphold - No internal conflicts, fairness and Fun.

With Winter League pending, I'm of course looking forward to writing up the match reports and making sense of our progress. I hope to be writing some even more positive reviews this time next year!
